A comparison of clinic success rates may not be meaningful because patient medical characteristics and treatment approaches vary from clinic to clinic. For complete information, call the CDC at 770-488-5372 or view its website, http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/drh/art.htm

We have concentrated on improving our "take home baby rate" by reducing miscarriages, as well as by increasing the number of patients who conceive. This is accomplished by detecting factors which may adversely affect pregnancy outcome BEFORE undergoing an ART cycle, and correcting them. Our data has been presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, in October, 2003, in San Antonio.

The effect of universal immunologic screening and treatment to improve implantation for all ART patients, who underwent an embryo transfer, comparing 2001 and 2002.

ART Livebirths/Retrieval (all patient cycles included)
Before universal screening/treatment for immune causes of reproductive failure: 2001
Clinical Pregnancy Rate37/7649%
Miscarriage Rate7/3719%
Delivery Rate30/7639%
After universal screening/treatment for immune causes of reproductive failure: 2002
Clinical Pregnancy Rate54/9756%
Miscarriage Rate4/547%
Expected Delivery Rate50/9752%

Before universal testing for immune factors of pregnancy loss the miscarriage rate was 19% and the take home baby rate was 39%. After universal testing and treatment for immune causes of pregnancy loss, the miscarriage rate decreased to 7%, resulting in a take home baby rate of 52%!

1 Fresh embryos from nondonor eggs. Due to decreasing ovarian reserve with age, we discuss the option for donor egg or embryo with our patients over 38, depending on their individual response.

2 To maximize the chance for a viable pregnancy, we often pre-screen our patients for factors, which may impair implantation and encourage them to consider freezing excess embryos or eggs for the future.
