Recurrent Miscarriage

Recurrent pregnancy loss is defined as two or more miscarriages in the first or early second trimester. Fewer than 5% of women suffer two miscarriages with only 1% experiencing three or more. Dr. McLaughlin has concentrated on helping couples conceive and carry throughout pregnancy for more than three decades.

Structural abnormalities, such as a septate uterus, or acquired Polycystic ovaries, endometriosis, fibroids or polyps can be detected with ultrasound, X-ray, laparoscopy and/or hysteroscopy. When these abnormalities are found, often there is medical and/or laser therapy which should improve your chance of delivering a baby. For example, using metformin or Glucophage for polycystic ovaries (PCO) throughout pregnancy will significantly improve the chance of delivering a healthy child.

At the Center for Reproductive Loss, Dr. McLaughlin has found that the male's abnormal structural DNA in the sperm contributes up to 40% of the causes of recurrent pregnancy loss.

What can you do to naturally help you reduce your chance of early pregnancy loss? Maintaining an ideal weight by diet and exercise, reducing alcohol and caffeine, stopping smoking and taking at least 1 mg of Folic Acid daily appears helpful. Counseling also provides comfort to help cope with the grief of pregnancy loss. Dr. McLaughlin and his staff help provide the emotional support you need, as well as refer you to competent counselors experienced with your specific situation. If you wish, a free RN consult is available to you by calling 866-322-2263.
