Third Party Reproduction
Third party reproduction may include using donor sperm, donor eggs, donor embryos, or gestational carriers (surrogates). Donor sperm is used to treat severe male factor. An anonymous donor is selected from several sperm banks which have quarantined frozen sperm available. With ovulation induction, just prior to ovulation, one of Dr. McLaughlin's nurses places the sperm into your uterus. Donor egg is used for women who have prematurely undergone the menopause (premature ovarian failure) and for those older women who wish to conceive. Using an agency an egg donor is selected, who then undergoes IVF egg retrieval. Her eggs are inseminated with your husband's sperm, and the subsequent embryos are placed into your uterus. With hormonal support, you have a good chance to carry the pregnancy and deliver. Donor embryos have no genetic link to the infertile couple. From an agency or embryo storage facility, cryopreserved embryos are selected to be placed into your uterus with hope of implantation and subsequent delivery. Gestational carriers, often referred to as surrogates, are necessary for women who wish to use her eggs, but have an absent or abnormal uterus to carry the pregnancy. Dr. McLaughlin will refer you to the appropriate agency to help accomplish your goals.
